Ashtanga Yoga, Yin Yoga

How / when did yoga come into your life? What does yoga mean to you?

For years I have practiced all kinds of different sports, but there it was more about the physical aspect. On the advice of a friend I ended up at the Yoga Studio. When I had my first yoga class in 2007, I felt that yoga is an awareness process. A balance between body and mind. You learn to listen to the signals from your body and deal better with your emotions.

In my daily practice I feel how I feel. Sometimes my energy level is high and the practice goes smoothly. While another day an attitude feels like I am practicing it for the first time, my thoughts go in all directions. Focusing on my breathing then helps to let go and take it as it is at that moment. That also makes you softer inside. Through the right breathing and consciousness I have found an inner peace which is an enrichment for my life. I have become stronger both physically and mentally.

What can students expect in your lesson? What do you want to give your students?

I start my lessons with a short meditation. Every day the body feels different. A little awareness of the body, sensation of breathing is important before you start your practice. During my lessons I regularly explain the postures. In this way the students can become more aware of their body and get deeper into the posture.

In addition, I think it is important to make the right connection with the student, so that they feel good and safe in my lessons.

What do you do besides yoga?

In addition to giving yoga classes, I have my job at the airport (Viggo Eindhoven Airport).
